FINAL CASTING INSPECTION

After the casting is ready, as per the complete layout. It is checked thoroughly.

Following checks are made while inspection:

a) Dimensional Checking

b) D P Test: Dye penetrate testing for the external surface.

c) Physical testing: To check for hardness, tensile strength and other desired physical

    properties using the universal testing machine.

d) Chemical Testing: To check whether the constituent elements are in the specified

    range of the grade required.

e) Ultrasonic Testing: To check for the internal structure of casting for cracks and other

    internal defects.

f) Microscopic Analysis: To check the grain size and other microscopic properties.

Heat Treatment

Heat treatment of the material is done depending upon the grade of the steel and the required hardness. Heat treatment furnace is fitted with the burner on all sides to provide uniform heating inside the furnace. Heat treatment is done under highly accurate temperature control, using six-point temperature recorder along with a graph of the complete process.

Foundry

HMFL uses various methods like Moulding, Mould Inspection, Core Setting Inspection, Box Closing Inspection. Firstly, the moulding is done in the reinforced boxes using pneumatic hammers, the mould formed is checked for any kind of defect like sharp corners, Loose sand, cracks etc. the mould is also checked for proper hardness using a mould-hardness tester, then

Heat Treatment. The cores are properly set in the core prints or the chaplets so that there’s no movement in the lifting of the cores and boxes are using heavy overhead cranes and alignment is done by skilful workers using dowel pins. The tested scrap is melted under the strict control of chemical composition. After the final chemical analysis, the required quantities of pre-heated ferroalloys are added, after some core process designed by HMFL, the material is covered with ladle cover and APC. Casting is removed from the box after the desired temperature.

The risers and gating systems are removed using pneumatic hammers, torch cuttings surface etc cleaning is done.

Sand Plant

The Green Sand requirement is sufficed by a fully mechanised sand handling system, which includes intensive sand mixers manufacture by George Ficher. The various test is performed in our laboratory for the reliability of the sand. Dry compression and shear strength, moisture contents, clay contents/grain fineness number, permeability etc. are some of the tests conducted. After all this, the approved sand is conditioned properly for further use.

Pattern Shop

For development and maintenance of patterns, the company has well-equipped Pattern Shop.

The development of the pattern as per the customer’s drawing is done in the house supported by the latest software. We have a dedicated task force consisting of highly skilled personnel and regular availability of highly accurate pattern plates for dimensional consistency of the castings.
